Many aspiring cadets believe pilot training is 90% flying in the sky. In reality, great pilots are built on the ground through thorough ground school theory preparation long before taking off.

1. The 5 Core Aviation Theory Subjects

  1. Air Law & Operational Procedures: International ICAO airspace regulations, right-of-way rules, and safety management systems.
  2. Meteorology: Decoding METAR/TAF weather reports, wind shear, icing hazards, and thunderstorm avoidance.
  3. Air Navigation: Calculating compass heading, wind correction angles, fuel burn rates, and radio navigation aids (VOR/NDB/GPS).
  4. Principles of Flight & Aircraft Knowledge: Aerodynamics, lift-to-drag ratios, engine magnetos, fuel injection, and hydraulic systems.
  5. Radio Telephony (RTR): Standard phraseology for communication with Air Traffic Control towers.

2. Simultaneous Ground School & Flight Integration

At Laminar Aviation, theoretical ground concepts are immediately applied in the cockpit during daily flight training. If you study meteorology in the morning, you observe cloud formations and winds in flight that same afternoon.
